Neutrals : A Modern Bohemian Wedding Color Pallet

A modern bohemian wedding theme is going to be less colorful than what you would traditionally think of when you hear the word 'bohemian'. Adding in the 'modern' element to a bohemian wedding will tone down the color pallet to one that is more earthy and can be used year round.

Stick with neutrals like white, ivory, tan, nude and maybe even black. If you want to incorporate color, do it in a subtle way with your florals or other small elements of the wedding. Over all, a modern bohemian wedding will be 50 shades of neutral.

Texture : Fringe + Flowers

The other crucial element to planning the modern bohemian wedding of your dreams is  incorporating the right amount (read A LOT) of texture into your special day. Texture that you would find in nature, we aren't talking glitz, glam and glitter, but more so, grit. Think about your decor, invitations, your dress, ring box, ribbons, guest book, etc. All the small ways that you can include interesting textures. This will serve as a decor element to your wedding too.

For example, rather than a traditional ring box, use something like an oyster shell, or geode to serve as function and fashion for your wedding day. Let this post about 5 Unique Ring Box Ideas inspire you to find your on unique ring box solution.

Using crystals for your decor and accessories adds an interesting element of texture as well as a little bit of sparkle without it become glam. Crystals are another great way for you to add in a subtle  amount of color to your wedding day.

Using a variety of natural textures through your florals, table linens and even attire is what will truly separate your neutral color pallet from a more traditional wedding. Use textures like leather, velvet, feathers, crystals, wild flowers, geodes, etc. Get creative!

Editing You Options

The KEY element to keep in mind decision making when it comes to planning a modern bohemian wedding is that you learn to *edit* your options. When I think of the word 'modern' I think minimalism. When I hear the word 'bohemian' I think eclectic or even the opposite of minimalism, maximalism. Your style for a modern boho wedding will be found somewhere between these two worlds. A modern boho bride is a  more 'mature' or 'sophisticated' version of her eclectic self. Still fun and whimsical, just a little refined.

Keeping in mind the neutral color pallet and textures we talked about above, when it comes to decor, think about how you can use things you may already have that you could decorate with. Now, if you're planning a wedding of 150, you probably won't have 150 throw pillows or table settings you can use to decorate with, but you can still rent these things, just as you would for any style wedding. You want to achieve a neutral and 'homey' feeling.

For a boho wedding, you aren't going to roll out the red carpet down the wedding isle, have floating tea candles with little diamonds and rose petals for decor or glitter place mats as table settings. But rather,  Turkish rugs for a wedding isle, mixed matched brass candle sticks donated from family or thrifted and handwoven macramé table runners. Rather than traditional seating, you may use floor poofs, or velvet couches.

I say the key is to edit yourself because this is a MODERN bohemian vibe. You don't want it to get too eclectic or have too many nick-back elements. Sticking to neutral colors and using texture will prevent you from going overboard but still allow you to have that quirky bohemian feel in a sophisticated way.

Use leather scraps and mixed matched neutral colored linens to effortlessly pull together a bohemian tablescape.
