How to keep a family journal
Have you ever kept a family journal? For my husband and I, this is a tradition we hope to keep in place when we have children. The family journal records all that happens in our home life and family experiences.
In the future, we would love to use this concept with our children, as a way for the family to come together and reflect on shared experiences.
We also named our home because there's so much significance that surrounds it for us. We're first-time homeowners with this house and we're already very attached to it. It's more than a number. It has history (built in 1950) and character that goes beyond the mailing address. Naming our house provides us with an anchor; it becomes a time capsule, a refuge, a living registry of time.
So, I had the name of our home debossed on our family journal, along with the date that we started filling it.
Here's a list of things we include in our Family Journal:
- guests that visit
- house projects
- moments we want to preserve with photographs, letters, cards, and other flat mementos
- recipes we enjoyed cooking in our little kitchen
- celebrations like birthdays and holidays
- any trips we go on
- how we want to grow stronger as a couple
- funny things we say
- a run-down of a typical day or weekend - with photos
- resolutions for the year, divided into categories (ex. Travel, Marriage, Work, Self, ect...)
