DIY: Garden Journal for Mother's Day

With Spring officially here, and Mother's Day around the corner, why not make a garden journal with mom this year to help her in the garden? We love the idea of putting together a garden journal that records all the new flowers, vegetables, fruit being planted.

Gardening can be a peaceful activity, and when done with someone, can encourage bonding and team work. What better way to get the kids out of the house, and learn from mother how to start a garden?

How to make a Garden Journal for Mother's Day - great activity to do with mom, too!

How to put together a Garden Journal for Mother's Day

Items needed:
Step 1:

Decide whether you're going to start the journal for mom, give her the necessary tools to put it together herself, or make it with her! We recommend using our leather rustic artisan books as they have watercolor grade pages for art or sketches, and are also make to hold 3 dimensional items such as photographs and seed packets.

Step 2:

Make a title page and write a heart felt note. We love the idea of getting all of mom's kids to pitch in and add their names to the title page to make it personal.

Step 3:

Create monthly title pages with space for your mom to jot down her monthly garden tasks, what can be planted, harvested, or needs to be tended to. Leave a space for her to add a photo of what's blooming in the garden that month!

Step 4:

Take photos of mom's garden and add a few to the title page or monthly title pages. The rest you can bundle with a pretty ribbon for her to add later.

Step 5:

Add empty seed packets or the informational plant markers that come with plants to the pages so mom can keep track of what she's planted and when.

Step 6:

Print out or help her fill in this seed starting and planting schedule spreadsheet - or if you're really creative, hand draw it on the pages of the garden journal for her to fill out.

Step 7:

Present mom with the journal and a new plant for her to add to her garden on Mother's Day!
