Setting Up a Bullet Journal for Beginners
Some people are intimidated by bullet journaling because of fear of the blank page. The thought of having to set up each page in their bullet journal is overwhelming. Below, we show you page by page how to set up your Bullet Journal for beginners. Giving you tips and tricks a long the way, to make getting started fun and easy!
Steps :
- On your first page you want to create a cover page. This could be the month, your name, a cool design, or simple ‘Bullet Journal’.
- Next, you’re going to set up your Key and Index pages. These are two pages you will reference time and time again, so take your time to set it up to function how you like best.
- Go ahead and number the corners of your pages.
- Create a monthly spread/calendar page. To see your entire month, important dates, events and notes all in one place.
- Now, decide on what other pages to set up/what you want to be keeping track of this month. (You can even create a page for that- we did!)
- Think about the design of your pages and consider why you are getting started bullet journaling in the first place. Originally, bullet journaling was created as a tool to help you maintain a functioning task list. Now, it is often used for creative expression for creative who like list. If you’re leaning into functionality (only) I suggest keeping your designs simple. Either way, have fun getting stuff done!

Other Tips for Bullet Journaling for Beginners:
- Don’t use sharpie (like we did on the cover page) or any marker/pen that will bleed through your pages.
- Use a ruler, trace business cards or use a stencil to create boxes and straight lines.
- Always sketch out your pages in pencil first
- Use bullet journaling as a tool to have fun! It’s a great way to help you get organized, but it can also be used as a fun exercise to relieve stress!
