Bookbinding Workshop at the East Atlanta Village Library

We hosted our first bookbinding workshop the East Atlanta Library earlier this month and we had so much fun hanging out with all the local bookbinding enthusiasts!

Amy Sarrell, Blue Sky Papers bookbindress, hosted the bookbinding workshop at the East Atlanta Library

One of our bookbindresses, Amy, hosted the workshop with the help of two of our new hires, Grace and Kristen.

As you know, we try to reuse and recycle as much as our materials as possible here at Blue Sky Papers. Amy explained the importance of reusing materials so nothing goes to waste.

She talked to participants about finding interesting paper materials everywhere from old books to envelope linings, and brought it scraps of material from her home as well as our "discard" bin in the studio where we save scraps and leftovers to be used in various other projects.

She also showed the class how to turn a paper bag into a pocket page for their books.

The class focused on teaching participants to make a book with perfect binding. Amy showed them how to make grooves in the pages for the book binding glue and instructed them on sanding down their grooves for an even spine.

We had a blast hanging out with everyone at the East Atlanta Library and we can't wait to host our next book binding workshop where we plan on focusing on more advanced techniques.
