Atlanta Weather and Winter Wedding Inspiration
Not sure if you have heard or not, but Atlanta Weather is a little bonkers. Especially in Winter. Going from one extreme to the next, which most often catches you off guard. But when it comes to freezing temperatures, we have learned not to mess around with the threat of snow. (Remember 2014?! Remember 1993?!)
All last week meteorologists were predicting between 3-4 inches of Snowfall in and around downtown Atlanta for Saturday (when later this week it is predicted to be 70 and sunny out, just fyi). In a 6-day span its not unusual for Atlanta temperatures to range a good 40-50 degrees.

You can imagine the frenzy the city went into to prepare for such a ‘catastrophic’ event of dealing with a couple of inches of snow on the ground for the weekend. The grocery stores looked like we’re prepping for Y2K all over again. #GodBlessOurSouthernHearts but can you blame us?! 2014 is a little too fresh in our memories. When the great Atlanta Snow Storm of 2014 literally shut down the entire city and left thousands of folks stranded in their cars, at work, etc. So we promise not to make fun of you and your milk and bread sandwiches that you will be eating all week long!
However, disappointingly enough all Atlanta saw this weekend was a light dusting of that ‘Devil’s Dandruff’, but mostly just ice. Whomp, Whomp. Despite my southern inability to properly function in snow, I was really hoping for a winter wonderland this weekend.

Either way, the cold temperatures and icey-sheen on everything left me feeling inspired, so I decided to freeze some books! This is actually something we have tried to do once before but with poor planning it didn’t work out so well. Even this time, it didn’t exactly turn out as planned, but a cool experiment nonetheless.
I tired to freeze a few different books but the one that seemed to work out best was our Acrylic Vow Plate (a custom order through us). Our acrylic book and Vow plate gives us all the Winter Wedding Vibes. With its natural icey appearance and crystal adornments it makes for the perfect little detail in your Winter Wedding.

I am actually in the middle of planing my own (destination) Wedding in Iceland (this spring) where it will still feel like winter there. So Winter Weddings are on my mind, right now. I haven't decided which Vow Book I will be using yet, but thought that this Vow Plate fits together well with what I have come up with thus far.

Above is a mockup of my bouquet and the Save the Date envelopes hand painted by moi! And below is a stunning Carol Hannah gown that hangs in the window of The Sentimentalist. (not my dress, but would look beautiful for a Winter Wonderland Wedding!)

Lastly, I will leave you with pictures of the other 2 books I tired to freeze and some thoughts + tips on freezing books...you know, if you're wondering!
So I think one of the largest problems we have had in this little experiment is not having the proper container to freeze in. The first time we tried this, we used a glass container and the freezing water broke the glass, so that didn't work out as planned at all. This go around, I used plastic containers and I definitely think that is the route to go. I just wish I had better sized plastic containers.
Also, I left these outside for over 24 hours (in below freezing temps) and the one pictured below didn't freeze all the way though. Or maybe it did, but the sun had started to melt it? I'm not sure, but when I took it out of its plastic container, the outside was completely frozen, but the inside was just water and hollowed out.
I filled the bottom of each container with water and let it freeze all the way, then I added the books + more water. Things got tricky here, as the new water started to melt the already frozen water and the book began to float. I think it is worth experimenting with fishing wire, or something to help suspend the book in place, where you want it to freeze.
When I was ready to get the books out of their containers I just filled up the bottom of my kitchen sink with warm water and set the containers in the water long enough to loosen the block of ice up (should only take a few seconds).

Stay warm + stay inspired, Friends!
