Wedding Photography Opportunities

Monday, March 8th, 2010

An article by Darren Rowse at Digital Photography School‘s website on “50 ‘Must Have’ Wedding Photography Shots” was a “must” read.  As I continued down the much traditional photography shot list trying to imagine each shot as if it were my wedding day all over again, I began fading to another place.  Much of the article’s wedding shot ideas are the traditional hand-over-hand, bouquet toss, and family shots you do not want to miss.  Having been married in a not so traditional kind of way, (and on a budget) on the beach by a Buddhist Minister, I had to adjust this “Must Have” list to a not so traditional, “Pre-Spontaneous Wedding Photography Opportunities”.  Luckily, my sister, the photographer, already had a spontaneous thumb when it came to taking photos.  She managed to shoot some 500 photos between the rehersal dinner, wedding day, and reception, with a limited audience of nine.  Here are some photography ideas taken from my Pre-Spontaneous Wedding Photography Opportunities: Spontaneous Wedding Photo Ideas for the Modern Bride and Groom.

Environment

Our rehearsal day/dinner was held at a winery.  What better photo ops. than the natural surroundings of a winery?  These environmental photos add that extra touch to your wedding album, bringing the memories alive.

Animals

Every wedding party has one, no matter how small.

The Promenade

Surprising “The Promenade” shot was not in the “Must Have” article.  A simple single-file line to the wedding site invites anyone to jump in and join the party.  (Love the angle of the shot to the right!)

Secret After Thoughts: Just Between You and Me

This photo opportunity is huge!  What a perfect time to snatch a photo of the giddy couple right after their vows.  The only time it is okay to spy on the newlyweds.  Get your camera ready, because you just might catch them kissing and rubbing noses!  Such spontaneous photos and so cute!

It’s Official

What makes the marriage official is the actual signing of the marriage document.  This is truly the defining moment, a “Must Have” photo.

Check out the article and send me some ideas in the comments section on great photo opportunities for any wedding.
