In the Studio: How We Make Our Velvet Guestbook

Here’s a look at how our lead bookbinder, Jessie, makes our velvet artisans. Starting with a roll of vintage velvet, she’s able to create this velvet guestbook:

Jessie begins by cutting the velvet down to size and adhering a paper backing to it, she then uses board to create the sturdy hardback cover.

After folding down the corners of the velvet, she lines the inside cover with handmade Italian watercolor paper that will be used for the pages as well. After securing the lining, she selects satin ribbon for the binding and creates the holes to thread the ribbon through.

From there, she threads the pages together and binds them in side the book with the ribbon. Once bound, she ties the ribbon into a bow on the spine for a finishing touch.

Our artisans are one of our most popular designs because they’re so versatile. They function as a traditional guest book, but also hold dimensional items such as photographs. A lot of our customers love coming up with creative guest book ideas, and our artisan albums often act as the perfect vessel for their vision to come to life.

Our velvet artisans come in champagne velvet, white velvet, and gray velvet, and they’re available for personalization, too!
