Blue Sky in the Wild: Travel Sketchbook on the Road

Blue Sky in the Wild: Travel Sketchbook on the Road

This year, as we get ready to share some new leather journal, sketchbook, and album designs, we decided to focus on the art of keeping a travel sketchbook or journal to inspire your latest adventures.

We asked a few bloggers and instagrammers to share their adventures with us through their Blue Sky Papers books, and we’re excited to introduce you all to Vanessa who loves blogging about art journaling!

Vanessa recently used our leather rustic artisan (oiled leather) as a travel sketchbook to house her watercolors, sketches from the road, and other unique findings as she traveled by car through Canada and the United States. We love that she asked us to make it in a vertical orientation for her. Made with watercolor paper from Italy, the pages hold ink and paint well without bleeding through.

One of our favorite journal entries from her was her depiction of retro motel signs she spotted on her journey. We also love how she took her travel sketchbook to the sea and included her beautiful take on seashells and rocks.

Vanessa said her artisan was lightweight, easy to carry, and didn’t warp, which is something we’re really glad to hear! We made the leather artisan to hold dimensional items such as photographs and other mementos.

It’ so easy for most blank books to warp as you add items to them, but adding items is half the fun! With a little wiggle room our leather artisan book is the perfect travel companion!

Be sure to follow Vanessa on Instagram. This month, she’ll be taking her artisan with her to Mexico for an art journaling workshop. We can’t wait to see what she does next!
