5 Gratitude Journal Benefits and 30 prompts to inspire you to have a more grateful heart, because we should all ‘ have an attitude of gratitude…’ that’s what they say anyways! Over the next 30 days I am going to do a little experiment of practicing gratitude daily. There are supposed to be many benefits to daily gratitude and I am hoping that it can help me (specifically) with a healthier, more focused mindset. Based off my research, and life experiences there are many reasons why you should practice gratitude, but there are 5 major reasons why I believe that we all should make gratitude a daily practice.

  1. 1. A gratitude journal helps you to slow down and focus on what you already have/have already accomplished

Focusing on the things you have and love in your life already, will combat those feelings of ‘not enough’ or ‘what’s next’. I know one thing that I am guilty of is not slowing down enough to truly appreciate what I have accomplished. Instead, we humans seem to get stuck in this cycle of finally getting what we want and as soon as we do, we’re on to the next thing we want. Now, when it comes to crushing goals and self-improvement, there isn’t anything wrong with constant improvement. Just remember, what you have is what you once wanted, and it needs to be recognized, appreciated and enjoyed fully. Daily gratitude will help you live in the present moment of what is.

2.It increases self-esteem

When you are feeling accomplished and grateful for your life and experiences it will naturally boost yourself confidence. While, you might not be able to control much in your life, practicing gratitude will help you control negative thoughts, keeping them at bay, allowing you to focus and seek out the good life has to offer you. Persistent positive reinforcement, directed to you, by you will raise yourself confidence to new levels!

3. It helps you perceive the world differently

Gratitude is like looking at the world through rose-colored glasses- a bit naïve, maybe, but a simple + rewarding practice that can truly impact you daily. In the times that we are living in now, it is EASY to look around and find everything that is wrong. Even on a personal level, it would be easier for one to make a list of all the things they don’t like about themselves, or to make a list of all the things they want to, but have yet to accomplish. Would it be as easy to make a list of things you LIKE and are PROUD of about yourself? I promise you that you would spend more time trying to come up with positive things, rather than negative. Isn’t this so backwards?! It’s a human design flaw, for sure, but one that we can “correct” with a daily dose of gratitude.

  1. 4. It lowers stress, improves sleep and increases energy levels.

When you feel good, proud, and accomplished, your stress levels will subside. You are not worried about what is to come because you are so focused and happy on your life currently, that at night when your head hits the pillow, you will sleep like a baby (or atleast better than the stressed out version of yourself).

5.Improves social interactions

With all the extra rest, and boosted self-confidence you will find yourself naturally becoming more social, because you are appreciating the people and things in your life more and you will want more of it!

You know you have lots to be thankful for, but at first it can seem a little daunting and silly to sit down and write about it. Use the prompts below to help remind you of all the little (and big) things in life you have to be thankful for.
